Our goal for the day is to get to know eachother and how we have come to think about mutual benefit. We anticipate that many interesting topics and themes will emerge in this introduction sessions (from organizers, designers, artists, and all those in between), and we’ll use the afternoon to colate them into some form that we can refer to as a resource in the future. This might take the form of a concept map, questions to ask oneself when organizing a residency, shared FAQ, or directory of current DIS related residencies. We have left lots of time to have unstructured chats and lunch.

What to Prepare

We have a few different kind of participants - those who have submitted papers, those who have been invited to contribute perspectives outside of DIS, those who will join and participate in activities, but will not present and organizers of the workshop.

Diagram

All Participants are invited to submit a diagram that attempts to represent the factors and relationships that determine “mutual benefit” in their collaboration. You can find an example on the about page. If you contributed a submission, you have already made the diagram. You should have received an email asking you to submit a PDF or JPG of the image for our Sythesis Activity but if you didn’t, you can submit it here.

2 Slide Introduction

We invite one short (2 minute) presentation per submission, organizer, or invited guest. Please use google slides or another online slide service that will make it easy for the organizers to load from a central computer. The slides should tell us who you are and what kind of work you do. We’re keeping it short and concrete. You should have received an email with a link to where you could submit this information but if you didn’t, you can submit it here.

Bring a Laptop or Other Networked Device That you can Use to Contribute to Shared Documents.

We’ll do collaborative writing activities at the end of the day, so bring your computer so you can write with us.
